HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 12, 2013) – The softball team will host Empire 8 rival Alfred University tomorrow, Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at the Weehawken Waterfront.  The doubleheader will serve as the team's Duck Country date and will be accompanied by a free giveaway.

Stevens enters the matchup having scored 20 runs over the past four games – the team's best output all season.  Junior shortstop Danielle DeFeo (Andover, N.J.) has gotten her average above .300 for the third consecutive year while freshman right fielder Kelsey Dempsey (Broomfield, Colo.) has stepped right into the three-hole in the batting order, hitting .281/.343/.438, scoring a team-high 11 runs and ranking second on the squad with 10 RBI.  Junior third baseman Stephanie Senkevich (Washington, N.J.) has brought a big bat to the lineup as well, mashing three homers and 13 RBI with a .377 on-base percentage and a .475 slugging percentage.  Senior Molly Herforth (Pompton Plains, N.J.) and sophomore Brianna Sandone (Haddon Township, N.J.) have split the load in the circle, with the pair combining to throw 21 complete games and two shutouts, including a one-hitter by Herforth just two weeks back.

Alfred comes into the afternoon an even .500 with a 10-10 overall record and 4-2 mark in conference play.  The Saxons are on a three-game winning streak and have taken six of their last eight as the offense has dominated their opponents.  Nine players are batting over .300, including two over .400 in Dana Torchia and Jasmine Picini.  Torchia paces the squad with 15 runs, a .446 average and .521 OBP while Picini leads the team in RBI (19) and ranks second in all three percentages (.439/.484/.579).  Nicole Maher has slugged four home runs on a .613 slugging percentage and Hana Gross has posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 107 chances.  Jessica O'Sullivan fronts the three-player rotation with a 6-1 record and 3.92 ERA while reliever Samantha Jo Muller has recorded a 3.71 ERA in 17 innings over nine appearances.

The softball team will also be celebrating Senior Day as it bids farewell to catcher Clair Strom (El Paso, Texas), centerfielder Lauren Hurley (Sparta, N.J.) and Herforth.

Be sure to make it out for the softball team's final home stand of the spring this weekend.  Fans will also receive free Stevens laundry bags for attending the doubleheader.
