ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 14, 2013) – For the second consecutive season, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team and Nazareth College met in the United Volleyball Conference finals, with Nazareth prevailing in both matchups. Stevens dropped to 25-9 this season with a 3-0 loss to the No. 1 Golden Flyers (34-1) for an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship which will take place April 26-28 at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
The Ducks will await and see if they receive an at-large berth into the tournament. Tonight's selection show, which begins at 8:30, can be seen on

In the straight-sets defeat, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20, Stevens posted a higher hitting percentage than Nazareth (.339 to .296) and also recorded more blocks (12 to 4), but the Golden Flyers put down 15 more kills and benefitted from 14 service aces. Stevens struggled defensively with 14 receiving errors.
Senior
Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) hit at a .429 clip and led Stevens with eight kills. Senior
Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) and sophomore
Etan Bennett (Rochester, N.Y.) each tallied six kills in the loss. Modestow hit .714, while Bennett posted a .417 percentage and paced the Ducks with six total blocks.
Junior
David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) added five kills, while sophomore
Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) handed out 22 assists.
Stevens led just five times throughout the match and were tied at 23-23 in the second set before Nazareth earned possession on a side out and then took the set after a timeout by the Ducks. The latest lead in any set that Stevens held was 8-7 in the third set.
