Baseball to Meet Rutgers-Camden in First Round of ECAC Metro Tournament

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 7, 2013)
– The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team earned the No. 4 seed in the ECAC Metro Championship and will play No. 5 Rutgers-Camden University on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 pm. at Campbell's Stadium. Campbell's Field is the home park for the Minor League Camden Riversharks.

Stevens (23-17) is the higher seed in the nine-inning affair but will play at Rutgers-Camden (22-18) in the seven-team tournament due to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse game being played in Hoboken tomorrow. If victorious, the Ducks will take on Empire 8 Conference rival and top seeded St. John Fisher College (26-14) on Saturday at a site still to be determined.

The Ducks will be led offensively by junior Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) who paces Stevens with a .353 batting average, 48 hits, 40 runs batted in, 32 runs scored, 20 walks, 13 doubles and four homeruns. Allen has also saved six contests in nine appearances.

On the mound, Stevens boasts four legitimate starters in senior Tyler Courter (Glenwood, N.J.) and a trio of sophomores, Gary Boardman (Staten Island, N.Y.), Matt Buccheri (Little Silver, N.J.) and Peirce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.). Courter leads the squad with 44.1 innings pitched, Boardman is tops with a 1.96 earned-run average and holds opponents to a .191 clip, Buccheri has struck out 46 batters this season, and Marston holds a 2.66 ERA in 13 appearances with 44 strikeouts.

The Scarlet Raptors garner three hitters with over 43 hits this season, highlighted by Adrian Gonzalez, who is hitting .341 with 16 doubles, eight homers and 41 RBI. Adam Satanoff is Camden's ace with a 9-2 record and a 2.57 ERA. Satanoff has punched out 60 batters of 66.2 innings pitched.
