HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 7, 2013)
– The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team, ranked 15th in the nation according to the latest USILA Top 20 poll, received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday and hosts Montclair State University Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Tomorrow night's opening round contest will take place on the De Baun Athletic Complex turf in the second meeting between these two schools this season.

Stevens (12-4) defeated Montclair (14-4) earlier this year in a tight, 12-11, matchup in Hoboken on March 20. The Ducks fell behind in the first 34 seconds of the game but took control of the contest until Montclair gained the upper-hand once again at 7-6 with 5:14 left in the first half. After a 7-7 tie on the ensuing goal, Stevens never relinquished the lead for the remainder of the contest. There were five ties in the ballgame, with the last one coming at the 8:40 mark of the fourth quarter by Montclair to even the score at 11-11.

In the March 20 showdown, the Ducks were led by the senior midfielder trio of Harrison Dorne (Morristown, N.J.), Rich Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Nicolas Philippi (Mullica Hill, N.J.) who combined to score eight goals with four assists. Dupras netted the game-winner with 2:43 left in regulation to cap off his six-point outing.

Dating back to 2003, Stevens owns a 12-1 record against the Red Hawks and has outscored Montclair, 206-93. The lone loss for the Ducks against Montclair came back in 2010 when Stevens fell by an 8-5 outcome. Since 2003, Stevens has been held to less than 11 goals once, while the Red Hawks have only scored double-digit goals one time.

Stevens made its way to the NCAA Championship by way of an at-large Pool C bid and was one of five schools in that pool. The Ducks will be making their third consecutive tournament appearance and have won each of their last two first round games. Montclair earned an automatic bid to the tournament with a 16-7 victory over Kean University in the Skyline Conference Championship.

If victorious, Stevens will advance to the Regional semifinals for the third straight season and will take on the winner of No. 6 Tufts University (14-4) and Norwich College (12-4). The Ducks fell to Tufts earlier this year in an offensive showdown, 18-14, on March 16. Stevens has never faced Norwich in the past 11 seasons.

Ticket prices for the game are $6 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors and $2 for children. Stevens students, faculty and staff are free with a valid ID.
