Box Score PITTSFORD, N.Y. (January 11, 2014) – St. John Fisher College defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team 80-67 Saturday afternoon in Pittsford, N.Y. Sophomore guard
Evan Klimchak (Readington, N.J.) led the Ducks with 19 points and three assists.
Stevens falls to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference with the loss.
Leading 17-15 with 9:22 left in the first, St. John Fisher (8-4, 2-1 Empire 8) went on an 11-0 run over a span of just 2:50 to open a 28-15 advantage with a shade over five minutes left in the opening period. From that point, Fisher was able to go up by as many as 17 points and eventually went into intermission on top, 40-24.
The Ducks cut the lead to 12 points with 14:58 on the clock following a steal from senior
guard Andrew Meszaros (Phoenixville, Pa.) and a layup from Klimchak. A three-point play from Klimchak pulled Stevens within 10 at 51-41with 12:23 to play, and a Skrelja free throw made it 53-44 with 11 minutes on the clock, but the Ducks could get no closer and St. John Fisher was able to earn the win.
The Ducks shot 41.7 percent (25-for-60) from the field and 7-for-17 from deep. They were 10-for-19 at the line, had 14 assists, 12 turnovers and eight steals as a team.
Junior forward
Kenny Gan (Hillsborough, N.J.) had eight points, four rebounds and two assists, while Meszaros had eight points, four boards and three assists.
The Cardinals shot 51.9 percent (28-for-54) from the field, and went 3-for-12 from long range. They were 21-for-25 at the line and had a 35-31 edge on the glass. Junior guard
Adam Ambielli (Califon, N.J.) led St. John Fisher with 25 points, and freshman forward
Keegan Ryan (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Stevens will return to the hardwood with a key Empire 8 battle against Hartwick College in the Canavan Arena Tuesday at 6 p.m.
