ITHACA, N.Y. (October 4, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team kept their undefeated season alive Saturday with a 5-4 win over Ithaca College.
 
The win moves Stevens' record to 9-0 while Ithaca dropped to 6-1. The loss is the first for Ithaca in Empire 8 play since Stevens beat them in 2011.
 
Stevens jumped out to the early lead thanks to its fifth doubles sweep of the season. Senior Jessica Bourque and junior Alexis Connor started the afternoon with a commanding 8-2 victory over sophomore Haley Kusak and senior Carly Siegel before senior Danielle Stewart and freshman Katrina Guido pulled off the 8-6 win at No. 2. Down 2-3, Stewart and Guido rallied to make it 4-3 before pulling off the 8-6 win.
 
Sophomore Allie Masciana and junior Julia Guignard completed the sweep with a tiebreaker win over senior Kelly Fishback and sophomore Maggie Overholt at No. 3. Guido and Stewart moved their record to 9-0, Bourque and Connor went to 4-1, and Masciana and Guiganrd moved to 3-1.
 
Bourque extended the Stevens lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles over Kusak, but Ithaca rebounded with wins at No. 2, 3, and 4 to bring them within one point of a tie. Needing a win in one of the last two matches, Connor dropped the first set 6-4 at No. 5 but rallied to take the second 6-2 before completing the win with a third set tiebreaker victory.
 
The win brought Connor's record to 6-1 in singles this season while Bourque moved to 4-1.
