NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (February 19, 2014)- The No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team was swept by No. 1 SUNY New Paltz Hawks Wednesday night in the Hawk Center. The loss drops Stevens to 6-4 on the season.

 

The Ducks lost the first set 25-19 before dropping the second and third 25-22 and 25-18 respectively. New Paltz more than doubled Stevens' hitting percentage .326 to .127.

 

Leading the way for the Ducks offensively was freshman Gabe Shankweiler (Allentowon, P.A) with nine kills, followed by sophomore John Eddins (Kula, H.I.) with eight and 12 assists. Junior Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) contributed to the defense with eight digs while sophomore Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) added five.

 

As a team, Stevens tallied 28 kills to go along with 27 assists and 26 digs.

 

Stevens will be back in action over the weekend as they compete in the Baruch Tournament. They'll open play Friday night against No. 14 Stevenson University, before a Saturday double-header with Emmanuel College and No. 2 Rivier University.
