HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 26, 2014) – The nationally ranked No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept Bard College on Wednesday evening in Canavan Arena in a United Volleyball Conference match.
Stevens (10-4, 5-2) cruised to the straight sets victory, 25-15, 25-16, 25-23, behind 15 kills from sophomore
Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.). Vaughan hit a match-best .538 on 26 attempts and just one error with nine digs.
Freshman
Gabe Shankweiler (Allentown, Pa.) posted his fourth consecutive double-digits kills effort and 10th of the season with 11 kills on 23 swings and a .304 hitting percentage. Shankweiler also tallied a match-high 12 digs to go along with two service aces and two block assists.
Classmate
Scott Russell (Newport Beach, Calif.) handed out a career-high 25 assists, while junior
Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) dished out 12 more assists with five digs.
Junior
Daniel Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) hit .500 in the match with four kills on six swings and one error. Smith also recorded two aces. Sophomore
Derrick Sokol (Newbury Park, Calif.) added seven kills in three sets played with a pair of digs and two aces.
Sophomore
Alexander Carpenter (Delaware, Ohio) chipped in four kills, while junior
Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) registered five digs. Sophomore
Ayal Ciobotaru (Cedarhurst, N.Y.) finished the match with four digs.
Freshman
Jordan Stuart (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Ducks with three total blocks.
Stevens hit .344 as a team (43 kills, 12 errors, 90 attempts), while Bard hit just .120 (30 kills, 18 errors, 100 swings). The Ducks put down 6.5 blocks and the Raptors tallied none.
On Friday evening, Stevens will entertain No. 2 Juniata College at 7 p.m.
