HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 4, 2014) – The nationally ranked No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology on Tuesday night in Canavan Arena. With the loss, Stevens is now 1-3 on the season.
Tonight's match was originally scheduled to be played in Walker Gymnasium at 7 p.m., but due to unplayable floor conditions, the match was moved to Canavan Arena and delayed one hour and 20 minutes.
The Ducks fell to NJIT, 25-22, 22-25, 29-27, 25-16, and hit .176 as a team compared to .325 from the Highlanders. In the set two victory, Stevens posted a .346 hitting percentage but never hit over .226 in its three losses. NJIT never hit below .242 en route to 54 kills and just 17 errors.
Stevens was led offensively by 15 kills from freshman
Gabe Shankweiler (Allentown, Pa.). Shankweiler also added six digs in the loss. Sophomore
Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) tallied 13 kills and a .346 hitting percentage with a pair of digs and two blocks.

Thomas Wright (La Mesa, Calif.) was the third Duck to eclipse double-digit kills with 10 to go along with six digs. Junior
Daniel Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) paced Stevens with a .571 hitting clip on nine kills in 14 attempts with one error. Smith also recorded a team-high-tying three total blocks.

Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) dished out 40 assist and guided the Ducks with nine digs. Classmate
Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) chipped in eight digs and four assists.
Stevens heads to Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the first United Volleyball Conference crossover on February 8 and 9. The Ducks will open up the weekend against Penn State-Behrend at 11 a.m. on the 8th and then take on Hilbert College at 3 p.m. that afternoon. The crossover concludes with a 10 a.m. contest against Medaille College on the 9th.
