HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 1, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team will be hosting its second annual Birthplace of Baseball Classic on Sunday, April 6 at Dobbelaar Field beginning at 12 p.m. There will be an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader played during the day between Stevens and Ithaca College. In between these games, there will be a two-inning exhibition contest between Hoboken's Historic H9 Baseball Team.
Festivities will kick-off with a seven-inning game between 2013 World Series participant, Ithaca and the Ducks. Currently, Ithaca has a record of 9-4 and is coming off of a four-game sweep of conference newcomer, Houghton College.
At the conclusion of the first contest, Hoboken's Historic H9 Baseball Team will take the field for a two-inning exhibition game. Using "old school" baseball rules during the exhibition, a public address announcer from the Hoboken Historical Museum will provide voice-over narration of the game.
Stevens and Ithaca will wrap up the event with a nine-inning affair scheduled to begin at approximately 3 p.m.
The Ducks are currently 9-4 this year and are coming off of a 6-2 victory over NJAC foe, William Paterson. Stevens plays Ramapo College tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Dobbelaar Field.
Food and drink is free for those in attendance and the ballpark fare includes hot dogs, cracker jacks and beverages.
