Box Score 2 ITHACA, N.Y. (April 19, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team surrendered just three earned runs on Saturday, but dropped both games of a doubleheader against Ithaca College 1-0 and 5-1.
With the losses, Stevens drops to 23-9 while Ithaca moved to 18-8.
Ithaca 1, Stevens 0 After a scoreless top of the first, Ithaca threated in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back one-out singles. Senior pitcher
Kayla Berardi worked out of the jam though, inducing an infield-fly-rule before getting sophomore Casey Gavin to ground-out to end the inning.
Both teams traded zeroes in the second before senior
Danielle DeFeo threw-out freshman Gabbie Litz at home in the third to preserve the 0-0 tie. Litz was attempting to score on an infield single up the middle, but DeFeo made the diving stop, then fired home for the out.
Ithaca did finally break the scoreless tie in the fourth. With Gavin on second, junior Francesca Busa doubled to center to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead. Stevens tried to answer with a one-out single in the sixth, but senior hurler Sam Bender retied the next two batters to hold the lead.
In the seventh, after Berardi worked around a lead-off walk to keep the game at 1-0 in the sixth, Bender retired the Ducks in order to clinch the win for Ithaca.

Jessica Rees led Stevens with three hits, while Berardi stranded seven runners in the loss to go along with two strikeouts.

Jessica Rees drove her in with a double to left. The lead didn't hold though, as Ithaca came-back with three in their half of the inning.
With one run already in, senior Sydney Fold hit a double down the right-field-line to score two more. Ithaca starter Bender made the lead stand with a one-two-three inning in the fourth before working around a first and second situation in the fifth.
In the fifth, Ithaca added two more runs to its lead with an RBI single from Folk before sophomore Kelly Robichaud was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Ducks escaped further trouble thanks to a fly-ball double-play where sophomore
Gavriella Risman-Jones threw-out the runner at home who had tagged-up.
Stevens went down in order in the sixth before Bender worked-around a two-out single in the seventh to close-out the win.
DeGennaro led the team with two hits while Rees added a hit and an RBI. Berardi took the loss, giving up two earned-runs and striking-out three in six innings of work.
