Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 23, 2014) – Sixteen members of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team tallied at least one point in Stevens' 23-6 triumph over Elmira College in Empire 8 Conference play. With the win, the Ducks (7-7, 4-2) clinch a trip to the Empire 8 Tournament on April 30.
Stevens jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one quarter against Elmira (2-11, 1-6) and continued to build on its advantage as the game progressed through the other three periods. The Ducks scored three more times in the second and went into halftime up, 10-3. After intermission, the cushion ballooned to 17-4 heading to the fourth, where Stevens outscored the Soaring Eagles, 6-2, in the stanza.
The Ducks scored 23 goals against the Soaring Eagles last season as well.
Offensively, the Ducks were led by eight points from junior
Michael Maroon (Virginia Beach, Va.) who dished out six assists and scored a pair of goals. Senior
Charlie Cronin (Northampton, Mass.) and sophomore
Matt Ferentini (South Salem, N.Y.) each registered six points in the win. Cronin netted a game-high five goals with and an assist, while Ferentini notched three goals and three assists.
Sophomores
Andrews Scrutchfield (Lewes, Del.) and
Michael Serrante (Bridgewater, N.J.), and freshman
Quintin Bower (Kings Park, N.Y.) each put in two scores. Those are the first two goals of Bower's career at Stevens.
Also getting in on their first collegiate goals this afternoon were freshmen
Tim Leahey (Loudonville, N.Y.),
John Marchese (North Salem, N.Y.) and
Tom Marchese (North Salem, N.Y.).
Tom Marchese also assisted on one goal.
Senior
Sean Scrudato (Westfield, N.J.) scored once, as did sophomores
Colin Sawula (Northampton, Mass.) and
Anthony Raposo (Tewksbury, N.J.), and freshman
Connor Towne (San Jose, Calif.).
Raposo, sophomores
Brett Incollingo (Yardley, Pa.) and
Connor O'Shea (Ridgewood, N.J.) and freshman
Connor McKeon (Branchburg, N.J.) each handed out an assist to round out the offense.
Incollingo dominated at the faceoff "X", winning 15-of-18 tries to go along with a game-high 12 groundballs. Freshman
Matt Levine (Islip, N.Y.) went 6-for-11 in faceoffs with three groundballs and sophomore
Jeff Wyckoff (Summit, N.J.) won all three attempts.
Sophomore
Austin Boyd (Bellevue, Wash.) picked up his second victory of the season with two saves in 25:04 between the pipes. Freshman
Anthony Setola (Riverdale, N.J.) stopped eight shots in 34:56 minutes of action.
The Ducks dominated every aspect of the contest, outshooting Elmira, 63-25, and scooped up 30 more groundballs – 50-20. Stevens converted on 4-of-11 man-up chances and was nearly perfect in clears, going 18-for-20.
Stevens travels to No. 11 Ithaca College on Saturday for its regular season finale at 1 p.m. A win for Ithaca will clinch the No. 1 seed for the Bombers and the Ducks will head back to Upstate New York on April 30 for the Empire 8 Semifinals.
