HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 24, 2014)
– The nationally ranked No. 5 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team travels to Juniata College to take on second-ranked SUNY New Paltz in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championship on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pa.

Stevens (22-9), is the seventh seed in the tournament, but ranked fifth by the AVCA in its Top 15 Poll. New Paltz (27-3) has defeated the Ducks twice this season during United Volleyball Conference play – once in the regular season, 3-0, and in the UVC semifinals, 3-1.

The Ducks reached the quarterfinals with a 3-1 win at Baruch College on April 19 in the first round. Stevens was led by 29 combined kills from AVCA All-Americans, sophomore Chris Vaughan (Medford, N.J.) and freshman Gabe Shankweiler (Allentown, Pa.). Stevens' third All-American, junior Daniel Smith (Tucson, Ariz.), added eight blocks, six kills and four digs. Vaughan was a first-team honoree, while Shankweiler and Smith were second-teamers.

New Paltz has won 20 of its 27 matches by 3-0 decisions and only two of the Hawks' contests have gone five sets – both were losses. The Hawks also boast three All-Americans on their squad for Friday night's matchup in the Kennedy Sports & Recreation Center. Tim Ferriter and Christian Smith landed on the first-team and Steven Woessner appeared on the second-team. Woessner was also named AVCA Newcomer of the Year.

The AVCA Player of the Year will be announced tonight during the championship banquet.

The New Paltz-Stevens match will be the third contest of the day at Juniata. Top-seeded Springfield College and Endicott College begin the eight-team tournament at 12 p.m., followed by the No.4/5 showdown between Rivier University and Carthage College at 3 p.m. After the Ducks and Hawks square off, host Juniata, the third seed, and No. 6 Kean University wrap up action at 8 p.m.

Semifinal final contests are slated to begin at 4 and 6:30 p.m. on April 26. The national championship match starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Single match prices are set at $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. All-session passes cost $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Check out Juniata's Fan Guide for more information on the championship and Huntingdon, Pa.
