NCAA Baseball Regional: Ducks Earn Sixth Seed, Play No. 3 Amherst on Wednesday

– The NCAA released its field of 56 teams for the Division III Baseball Championship late last night and Stevens Institute of Technology earned the sixth seed in the New York Regional. Stevens will play No. 3 Amherst College on Wednesday at Colburn Park in Newark, N.Y. at 4:30 p.m. The New York Regional is hosted by Ithaca College.

Stevens (26-13) will participate in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002 after it locked up an automatic bid by winning the CUNYAC Championship on Saturday, 5-3, over Baruch College in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Amherst (28-9) is an at-large program out of the NESCAC and ranked No. 23 in the country. This will be the seventh appearance for the Lord Jeffs.

The eight-team regional consists of SUNY Cortland (31-8), Kean University (31-12), Amherst, Rutgers-Camden University (29-11-1), Farmingdale State College (25-11), Stevens, Union College (26-10-1) and Castleton State College (29-10). Seedings of the regional follow the order of teams listed previously.

Tickets each day are $4 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens, and $2 for children 12 and under, and can be purchased at the gate.

At the conclusion of the five-day double elimination tournament, the winning team will book a flight to Grand Chute, Wis. for the 2014 College World Series, which will be held May 23-27, at Fox Cities Stadium.
