In a matchup of newly minted top-25 opponents according to the most recent NWCA Top-30 Poll released Monday, Waynesburg downed Stevens by seven to improve to 10-4 overall. The loss for Stevens snapped a four-dual winning streak and dropped the Ducks to 5-3 overall.

Sophomore Rob Murray continued his winning ways with a decision at 125 to put Stevens on top 3-0, but the Jackets were able to counter with a trio of decisions at 133, 141 and 149 to take a 9-3 margin heading into 157 lbs.

Senior Mike Polizzi was able to turn a six-point hole into an even dual, winning by fall less than two minutes in (1:59) at 157 to pick up his 10th win of the season (10-2).

Waynesburg won the next two bouts at 165 and again at 174 to open a 16-9 margin, but freshman Phil Woods brought Stevens within four at 16-12 with a 5-2 decision at 184. Unfortunately for the Ducks, they had to forfeit at 197, and despite senior standout Chris Florek ending the match with a solid 7-2 win in the heavyweight class, Waynesburg took the match, 22-15.

No. 20 Stevens 26, Worcester Polytechnic Institute 12
Murray improved to 2-0 on the day with a 4-2 OT win over Brian Amato at 125 to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead for the second-straight match. Senior Anthony Geiger pushed the Stevens lead to 9-0 thanks to a win by fall 4:52 into his bout at 133, and after a loss at 141, Wilhelm gave the Ducks a 12-3 margin and started a three-bout winning streak that ended with Stevens holding a commanding 19-3 advantage.

After Wilhelm, Polizzi went to 2-0 on the day with an 11-1 major at 157, and sophomore Colin Navickas turned in a 10-4 decision at 165.

Woods tallied four team points with a 14-5 major decision over Joe Pizzuto at 184, and Florek ended the dual with his second decision in as many tries, downing Logan Mendelson, 9-4, at heavyweight to give the Ducks the 26-12 win.

Stevens won 7-of-10 bouts in the dual to even bring its mark to 1-1 on the day and 6-3 overall.

Oneonta 21, No. 20 Stevens 19
Stevens went 3-2 to start its third match of the day, opening a 12-6 margin after the 157-pound weight class. Murray pocketed his third win of the day at 125 with Wilhelm and Polizzi winning at 149 and 157, respectively. Murray won by decision (9-2), with Wilhelm taking a major (10-2) and Polizzi scoring a technical fall (17-0).

Senior CJ Caserta gave the Ducks a 16-6 lead, picking up four team points thanks to a 14-4 major decision. The veteran was able to get a reversal and near-fall points late to pick up an extra team point for the Ducks.

Stevens fell at 174, but Woods won for the fifth-straight time individually, taking his match 9-3 at 184 to make it 19-9 Stevens with two bouts remaining. However, despite a 10-point lead, the Ducks dropped the final two bouts of the match, falling in heartbreaking fashion, 21-19, to drop to 6-4 on the year. The Red Dragons improved to 4-3 with the win.

No. 20 Stevens 48, King's 6
After falling in a tough one previously, Stevens left little doubt in its final dual-match of the day, jumping out to a dominating lead and never looking back against King's.

Murray finished his trip to Collegeville, Pa. thanks to a forfeit win at 125, with Geiger and freshman Aaron Wolfang each winning by fall at 133 and 141. Geiger tallied his pin 2:28 into the first period of his match, with Wolfang getting his 21 ticks into the second period.

Wilhelm took a major (11-0) over Benjamin Siegel at 149 pounds to give the Ducks a 22-0 lead, with the veteran Polizzi keeping the shutout in tact with another technical fall (16-1). Polizzi finished his day 4-0 and improved his season mark to 13-2, earning a win by fall and two techs.

Caserta made it 33-0 Ducks, pinning his man at 165 just 28 seconds into their match at 165, with senior Zach Bass and Woods earning six points apiece at 174 and 184. Bass won by fall in the first period of his bout with Woods getting a 'W' via forfeit.

Stevens forfeited 197 for the only Monarch points, and Florek ended things with a 4-1 decision over Ralph Bernardo.

The Ducks, now 7-4 on the season, will return to action January 13 (Tuesday) when they visit the United States Merchant Marine Academy in their first Centennial Conference dual-match of the season.
