Women’s Basketball Continues E8 Play With Pair Of Weekend Games

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 23, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team travels to Hartwick College tonight for a 6 p.m. game before playing at Utica College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
 
The Ducks (12-2, 6-1) enter the weekend in second place in the Empire 8 Conference while Hartwick (4-12, 2-5) is in seventh, and Utica (9-8, 5-3) sits in third.
 
SECOND TIME AROUND
 
Saturday will mark Stevens' second crack at Utica after beating them 55-52 on Jan. 1. Since that game, the Pioneers are 5-0 with all wins coming against E8 teams including three by double-digits. The Ducks haven't lost to Utica since Dec. 7, 2012.
 
SCOUTING HARTWICK
 
After starting the conference slate 2-0, the Hawks have dropped five straight including three by double-digits. Junior Taylor Vonasek and sophomore Emily Stone represent Hartwick's lone scorers averaging double-figures while sophomore Christina Graziadei pulls-down five rebounds per game.
 
ASTEL ACCOLADES
 
Junior Kaitlyn Astel was named the E8 player of the week for the second straight week Monday, and currently leads the Ducks in scoring (16.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.3). Astel picked-up additional attention this week when she was named the ECAC's co-player of the week.
 
CONFERENCE STANDING
 
As a team, Stevens currently leads the conference in scoring margin, scoring defense, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, defensive rebounding, rebounding margin, and blocks.
 
WASHINGTON'S WINDOW
 
Sophomore Brittany Washington sits second on the Ducks in rebounding at 6.1 boards per game. The Stevens forward has recorded at least six rebounds in eight games this season, and currently ranks 13th in the conference in average rebounds per game.
 
SOPHOMORE STARS
 
Sophomore Erica Guketlov has been the Ducks primary play creator with a team-leading three assists per game, while Hannah Brophy has added scoring and rebounding through starting all 14 games.
 
Daphne Ginn has been a crucial piece of the Ducks bench, playing at least 18 minutes eight times and adding 10 three-pointers.
