Wrestling Ranked 20th in Latest D3 Poll; Freshmen Kowal and Woods Ranked Individually

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 8, 2015)
– Winners of four-straight duals and owners of several strong showings at high-level tournaments, the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team finds itself ranked No. 20 in the latest NCAA Division III Rankings published by Intermat on January 5.
 
The Ducks are coming off convincing home victories over Trinity College and Hunter College this past weekend in Hoboken after a solid win at Madison Square Garden over Southern Maine on December 21. Stevens has an overall record of 5-2 and is 5-1 against Division III foes. The Ducks' only defeats this season have come at the hands of DI Rutgers University and current No. 9 Delaware Valley College.
 
Next on the Ducks' schedule is a trip to Ursinus College for the North/South Duals where they will do battle against No. 22 Waynesburg University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Oneonta and King's College. All four matches will take place Saturday, with the Waynesburg dual kicking things off promptly at 9:30 a.m. All other bouts will take place as soon as possible in the order above.

The only other Centennial Conference school in the most recent top-30 is cross-river-rival New York University at No. 26. The Ducks and Violets will wrestle in Hoboken on January 28 at 7 p.m.
 
Individually, Stevens has two rookies ranked in the top-10 of their respective weight classes in AJ Kowal and Phil Woods. Kowal is ranked No. 8 at 174 pounds, already earning a pair of individual tournament titles this year and maintaining an overall record of 15-2 with six wins by fall. Woods is No. 8 at 184 lbs. and has an overall record of 13-6 after two dominating victories this past weekend against Trinity and Hunter. Woods has a record of 13-6 and has picked up five pins.
 
Senior 165-pounder CJ Caserta and junior 174-pounder Kalen Gans lead Stevens in wins with 21 apiece.
