ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 18, 2015) – The third-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team fell to top-seeded Ithaca College, 5-1 Sunday in the Empire 8 Conference Championship final.
The loss ends Stevens' season at 8-3, while Ithaca will move on to the NCAA Tournament.
Ithaca jumped out to the early lead with an 8-2 win at second doubles over sophomore
Katrina Guido and
Sydney Zoretic, before extending the lead with an 8-3 win at No. 1. Stevens' rookie tandem of
Victoria Piskarev and
Jill Hadwen were able to respond however, picking-up the tiebreaker win at No. 3 to get the Ducks on the board..
The match loss was just the second of the season handed to the Bombers by the opposition.
Ithaca rebounded with a straight-set win over Hadwen at fourth singles, before extending the lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 over junior
Alexis Connor. Up 4-1, the Bombers preceded to clinch the championship with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 over senior
Julia Guignard.
With the season now over, the Ducks will return to action this March to begin their sprig schedule.
