UTICA, N.Y. (October 4, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team blanked Utica College 9-0 Sunday to close-out the Empire 8 Conference regular season schedule.
The win moved Stevens to 7-2 (6-2), and gave the team its third consecutive 9-0 victory. Utica fell to 0-9 with the loss.
Juniors
Jillian Morneau and
Lily Bruenjes started the team's winning with an 8-0 win at third doubles, followed by an 8-1 victory at No. 1 for Senior
Julia Guignard and junior
Alexis Connor. The win was the first of the season for Morneau/Bruenjes, while Guignard/Connor ran their win streak to four.
Freshmen
Jill Hadwen and
Victoria Piskarev completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 2, before sophomore
Allison Waters won the first match of her Stevens career with a straight-set win at sixth singles. Bruenjes clinched the match soon after with a win at No. 3, followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win for sophomore
Katrina Guido at No. 2.
Piskarev, Morneau, and senior
Arden Servidio wrapped-up the match win wins at No. 1, 4 and 5 respectively.
The Ducks will close-out their regular season next weekend with the two-day Drew Invitational, before heading to Rochester on Oct. 17 for the semifinals of the E8 Championship.
