HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 15, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team captured the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference Championship Sunday in Hoboken after a 7-0 day.
The title is the third all time for Stevens and the first since the 2001-02 season. The win snapped a five year winning streak by Johns Hopkins University.
Individually, freshman
Abby Kaye took-home foil fencer of the year honors while junior
Zoe To earned sabre fencer of the year. As a unit, the Stevens foil team was named the top squad of the year.
"We fenced the best we've fenced all season and it won us a conference championship," head coach
Linda Vollkommer-Lynch said. "I'm so proud of the way the team performed today."
The Ducks went unbeaten against the seven team field with wins over Vassar College (23-4), Haverford College (22-5), City College of New York (22-5), Hunter College (22-5), Drew University (26-1), Yeshiva University (26-1), and Johns Hopkins (15-12).

Karen Kong and sophomore
Kyria Johnson went 18-3 and 13-8 respectively.
Freshman
Erin Hatcher went 17-3 in epee while senior
Sienna Batzli went 15-5. In foil, junior
Caroleen Chen went 18-3 and senior
Taia Harrison went 19-2. With the wins, Harrison became the first Stevens fencer in program history to record 200 career wins in foil.
Chen and Harrison were named first-team EWFC all-stars in foil while Hatcher, Batzli and freshman
Youmna Elsayed were second-team all-stars at epee. Kong was a first-team all-star in sabre and Johnson was named to the second team.
The Ducks will return to action next Sunday with the College Squad Championships.
