HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 5, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team was edged by Empire 8 Conference foe Nazareth College, 5-4 Saturday in the 2015 season opener.
The loss drops Stevens to 0-1 while Nazareth moved to 1-0.
The Ducks jumped out to an early doubles lead thanks to wins at No. 1 and No. 2 for junior
Alexis Connor and senior
Julia Guignard, and sophomore
Katrina Guido and freshman
Sydney Zoretic. The freshman tandem of
Victoria Piskarev and
Jill Hadwen took their match to a tiebreaker before falling 9-7 in their collegiate debuts.
Guido extended the Ducks lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No 4 before Nazareth bounced-back with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. Guignard got the Ducks back on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5, but it's all the scoring that Stevens would get the rest of the day as Nazareth took-home wins at No. 3, six, and one for the win.
The Ducks will continue their E8 schedule Sunday when they host Elmira College on the Stevens tennis courts.
