HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 29, 2016) – Fresh off a Centennial Conference win, the No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team will look stay unbeaten in the conference with a road-quad Saturday.
WEEKEND INFOThe Ducks (14-2, 2-0) will begin the quad against Johns Hopkins University at noon, before ending the day against Gettysburg College. Both matches will take place at Bream Gym in Gettysburg, Pa.
SCOUTING REPORTAt 5-4 (0-1), Gettysburg features its top grappler at 285 in the form of No. 7 Paul Triandafilou. Hopkins enters the weekend 1-2 (1-1) off a win against Gettysburg.
LAST TIME OUTAfter dropping two of the first three matches Wednesday against the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the Ducks rallied to take six of the final seven in a 28-13 win.
HISTORIC DUCKSWith Wednesday's win the Ducks set a new program record for consecutive wins with 10, while one win this weekend will set a new mark for wins in a season.
AGAINThe Ducks pulled off a pair of dominant wins against Gettysburg and Hopkins last season in 38-10, and 33-9 victories respectively.
MOVING ON UPSophomore
A.J. Kowal moved up the national rankings at 184 this week to the No. 5 spot, while junior
Colin Navickas moved up to No. 6 at 165.
NATIONAL LEADERKowal was tied for the most pins in the nation as of the latest NCAA standings on Jan. 20, and gained
one more pin Wednesday against Merchant Marine.
30-FOR-30Navickas extended his team lead in wins to 35 Wednesday, while sophomore
Zach Wilhelm tallied his 30th win of the season Wednesday in a decision win. The pair are the only Ducks to achieve 30 wins so far this season.
MURRAY'S MATSince a loss a mid-November, junior
Rob Murray has won 13 consecutive dual matches.
