NEW YORK, N.Y. (February 14, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team captured its second consecutive Eastern Women's Fencing Conference Championship Sunday after a 7-0 day.
The title is the fourth overall for Stevens after the Ducks snapped Johns Hopkins University's five-year run a season ago. In addition to the seven wins, Stevens captured each of the three team weapon titles for the first time in conference history.
Freshman
Julie McEldoon was named the conference's epee fencer of the year.
The Ducks topped Hunter College 23-4, Yeshiva University 27-1, Haverford College 22-5, Vassar College 20-7, Johns Hopkins Universit 16-11, and Drew University 22-5.
Freshman
Amanda Choy was named First Team All-Conference and sophomore
Erin Hatcher was named Second Team All-Conference at epee, while freshman
Julia Yang and freshman
Michelle Drobish were each named first team at sabre. Sophomore
Abby Kaye and senior
Caroleen Chen were both named second team at foil.
Chen led the Ducks with a 19-2 day, while Choy and Yang went 18-2 and 18-1 respectively to highlight the Ducks top performers of the championship.
Cruz and Hatcher also each set career-marks as both went over 100 wins during the day.
The Ducks will be back in action in two weeks with the NIWFA Championships in West Point.
