Women’s Basketball To Host E8 Championship

HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 23, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team will be hosting the Empire 8 Conference Championship Friday and Saturday.

GAME INFO
The No. 1 seeded Ducks will take on No. 4 Nazareth College at 6 p.m. Friday, and No. 2 St. John Fisher will battle No. 3 Ithaca College at 8 p.m. The two winners will square off Saturday at 4 p.m. at Canavan Arena.

DUCKS VS. THE FIELD
Stevens went 5-1 against the other three teams, falling to St. John Fisher College on Saturday 75-72.

ALL CONFERENCE
For the second straight season, senior Kaitlyn Astel was named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year. Astel was joined on the first team by classmate Miranda Ripken, and fellow senior Dylan Krause was tabbed Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year.

THIS IS HAUGHEY DO IT
Head Coach Megan Haughey, along with assistant coaches Melissa Brooks, Jean Farid and Ed Furman were named the Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year. It is the first honor for Haughey and her staff.

NAZ RECAP
Trailing 63-56 with 4:44 left to go Friday against Nazareth, the Ducks went on a 19-2 run, including the final 14 points to win 75-65. Astel and Ripken combined for 40 points in the victory.

A STEP BACK
The Ducks suffered their only E8 loss of the year Saturday, falling to Fisher 75-72. Sophomore Anna Toke filled the stat sheet, tallying eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots.

EG III
Junior Erica Guketlov knocked down all three of her attempts from behind the arc on Friday, scoring 13 points while chipping in four assists and five rebounds in the victory.

SCOUTING NAZ
Lindsey Kelly averages a double-double for the Golden Flyers, who come into the contest with an 18-7 overall mark. Kelly is averaging 19.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per game, while Sam Sorge is second on the team with 16.0 points per game.

ITHACA/FISHER SHOWDOWN
In a rematch of last season's E8 Championship game, Fisher and Ithaca will square off in the second semifinal. Fisher took both regular season meetings, including a buzzer-beating three point game winner by Emily Piacentini on February 4.
