HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 4, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team travels to Houghton College and Alfred University this weekend.
GAME DETAILSThe Ducks (13-5, 9-0 Empire 8 Conference) will take on Houghton Friday night at 8 p.m. before battling Alfred on Saturday at 4 p.m.
WEEKEND RECAPIn the one of the biggest games of the season, the Ducks topped St. John Fisher College 51-35 last Friday to take over sole possession of first place in the E8. The team followed that up with a 67-55 win over Elmira College Saturday.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTSThe Ducks are 2-0 against their weekend opponents, topping Houghton 52-37 and Alfred 81-36 in January. The Alfred game saw every player score at least two points and the team shot 47.4% from the field.
DUCK DEFENSEFisher leads the E8 in scoring offense, scoring 73 points per game, but the Ducks held them to a mere 35 points on 30.8% shooting. Stevens allows the fewest points at 54.7 per game, and outscore their opponents by 9.1 points.
SENIOR POWERSeniors
Miranda Ripken and
Dylan Krause combined for 21 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Fisher. Ripken is second on the team with 10.7 points per game and Krause is averaging 6.3 points per contest.
GREAT KAITAfter scoring in single digits in three of the previous four games, senior
Kaitlyn Astel exploded for 23 points against Elmira, the most she's scored since going for 27 against DeSales on December 9.
POUNDING THE BOARDSSophomore
Megan Brown has been a force in the paint this year, and against Elmira narrowly missed a triple-double. Brown had 11 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, and is third in the E8 in rebounding. The Ducks as a team lead the conference with 43.8 rebounds per game.
