HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 24, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team plays four games in over the next four days, hoping to start a new winning streak.
GAME INFOThe Ducks will open Empire 8 Conference play Friday and Saturday with three games against SUNY-Canton, before taking on Rutgers University-Camden Monday. First pitch on Friday will be 12 p.m. and will be a doubleheader, followed by a 5:30 p.m. Saturday start.
CALIFORNIA REWINDStevens went 0-3 on their California trip, falling twice to the University of Redlands and once to Chapman University.
SUNY-CANTON SCOUTING REPORTThe Kangaroos enter the weekend with a 4-9 overall mark, and are led by Wilson Matos .472 batting average. Travis Bigelow leads the Roos with a 2.53 ERA and is 1-2 in four appearances.
CAMDEN REPORTThe No. 10/15 Scarlet Raptors are 9-2 on the season, falling to Wheaton College and then No. 1 SUNY-Cortland. Doug Carter Jr. is hitting .452 for Rutgers, while Billy Jackson is 3-0 in three starts.
FRESH FACES A pair of freshman;
Ryan Larsen and
Danny Poidomani, made their collegiate debuts on the road trip. Larsen allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings, while Poidomani tossed 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief in two appearances, allowing just one baserunner.
YANO GOES YABOSenior
Jayson Yano belted his first home run of the season in the second game of the twinbill against Redlands. Yano hit .333 on the trip, going 4-for-12 with two RBI's.
WALK THIS WAYAgainst Chapman on Tuesday, the Ducks drew seven walks, including two each from juniors
Zeph Walters and
Nolan Bennett.
BRANCO BUSTERIn his second career start, freshman
Matt Branco went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's against Redlands.
HOMECOMINGBennett reached base four times against Chapman. The California native had two hits, including a double, while also drawing two walks with two runs scored.
