Baseball Gearing Up For NY Trip

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 15, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team (17-10) continues its road trip as they play two games in upstate New York this weekend.

GAME DETAILS
On Saturday, the Ducks will take on Head Coach Kristaps Aldins alma mater Vassar College for a 1 p.m. first pitch before heading to Elmira College for another 1 p.m. start Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT 
The Ducks concluded a three-game series with Utica College Wednesday, topping the Pioneers 8-2. In the three game set, Stevens outscored Utica 23-6.

VASSAR REPORT
The Brewers are 10-13 overall, 6-6 in the Liberty League. Nick Johnson leads the team with 32 hits, while Trent Berg has struck out 25 hitters to lead the team.

ELMIRA SERIES REWIND
Last Friday, the Ducks swept a doubleheader against the Soaring Eagles, winning 3-0 and 12-3. Elmira currently is 6-13, 0-6 in the Empire 8 Conference.

RING 'EM UP
Five Duck pitchers, led by senior Robert Robbins, fanned 14 hitters on Wednesday against Utica. Robbins had seven, and relievers Danny Poidomani, Greg Jakusik and Danny McIntyre each punched out two.

SWIPIN' BAGS
On Wednesday, Stevens stole nine bases, while only getting caught once. Senior Jayson Yano and junior Harrison Kaye each swiped a pair of bases.

JAY HEY KID
Yano has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games. The senior is also second in the conference with 42 hits and third with a .402 batting average.

EIGHT IS GREAT
Junior Zeph Walters and senior Nick Sieber are riding eight game hitting streaks, while those two coupled with junior Nolan Bennett have reached base in eight straight contests.

NATIONALLY RANKED
Yano is third nationally with 25 stolen bases, trailing the national leader Sully Martin of Louisiana College by just one. As a unit, the team is ranked 24th with 69 steals.

DINGERS
The team has crushed 19 home runs so far this season, led by Walters' five. Last year's team only hit 12 the whole year.
