HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 28, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team concludes Empire 8 Conference action with three games against Houghton College this weekend.
HOUGHTON SERIES INFO
The Ducks and Highlanders will play a three-game series in Houghton. First pitch Friday night is 6 p.m., while a doubleheader Saturday begins at 1 p.m.
SUNDAY FUNDAY
After the three game series, Stevens will take on No. 1 and defending National Champions SUNY-Cortland on Sunday. First pitch of that game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
HIGHLANDER REPORT
Houghton comes into the series with a 13-22 mark, and are 3-12 in the Empire 8. Michael Knapp leads the team with 38 hits, while Tage Johnson has hit 15 doubles.
CORTLAND REPORT
The Red Dragons boast a 32-5 overall record, and are led by Fabio Ricci who is hitting .424. 10 hitters in the Cortland lineup are hitting .300 or better.
DUCK NEWS
Stevens enters the weekend with a 21-13 record, and are 11-4 in the Empire 8. The Ducks have clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament which begins on May 12.
WEEKEND REWIND
The Ducks spilt a four game set with St. John Fisher College last weekend, and went 1-2 in the games that counted for E8 standings.
GOING THE DISTANCE
Senior
Greg Jakusik and junior
Zeph Walters each hurled their first complete games of the season in wins over Fisher. Walters fanned six in his outing, allowing no walks and only five hits.
CHASING HISTORY
Senior
Jayson Yano collected his 200th career hit in game one of Sunday's doubleheader, becoming only the second player in school history to reach 200 hits. With two hits in the nightcap, Yano sits a mere six hits away from becoming the school's all-time leader in hits.
THE KAYE WAY
Junior
Harrison Kaye recorded a career-high three hits in the second game on Sunday, while also adding the final run of the game.
