HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 6, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team wrapped-up its 2015-16 schedule Wednesday with a 6-3 loss to SUNY-New Paltz in Hoboken.
The loss dropped Stevens to 8-5, while New Paltz moved to 7-4.
Senior
Julia Guignard and junior
Alexis Connor got the Ducks the early point with an 8-1 win at first doubles, but New Platz bounced-back with the equalizer in an 8-5 win at No. 2. Stevens was able to take back the lead from there however thanks to a win at third from freshmen
Victoria Piskarev and
Jill Hadwen.
The win ends Guignard/Connor's doubles record at 9-5 this season, while Stevens' rookie tandem ends the season with its team-leading 11th victory.
New Paltz tied the match once again with a win at fourth singles, before taking the lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5. A tight 7-5, 7-5 loss by Connor at No. 1 put New Paltz up two, followed by the match clinching 6-1, 6-2 loss at second.
New Paltz also picked-up the 6-0, 6-2 win at third, but junior
Allie Masciana salvaged a point at sixth with a straight-set victory.
After battling injury during the fall, the win ends Masciana's singles record at 3-1.
The Ducks will return to competition next fall where they'll once again look to take their place as one of the top programs in the Empire 8 Conference.
