Baseball Prepping For Empire 8 Tournament

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 11, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team heads to upstate New York for this weekend's Empire 8 Conference Tournament.

TOURNAMENT INFO
The second seeded Ducks will take on third seeded Ithaca College at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The winner of that game will battle the winner of No. 1 St. John Fisher College and Utica College on Friday at 1 p.m. The two losing teams will meet 10 a.m. in the double elimination tournament.

LOCATION
All games will be played at Dugan Yard located in Pittsford, N.Y. just beyond the campus of St. John Fisher.

DUCKS VS. THE FIELD
Stevens finished with a 14-4 mark in the Empire 8, and went 5-4 in conference play against the three other teams. The Ducks also won a non-conference game against Fisher this season.

ITHACA REPORT
The Bombers took two of three from Stevens earlier this season, and are hitting a collective .292 this season. Trevor Thompson leads six starters with a .300 or better average, while Tyler Hill had a team-best 3.20 earned run average.

LAST TIME OUT
Stevens picked up its sixth straight victory on Sunday, topping Amherst College 8-5. Senior Greg Jakusik claimed the win, while classmate Jayson Yano earned his first career save.

USING THE 'PEN
In two victories last week, the bullpen efforts were outstanding. Against then No. 12/22 Keystone College, Yano tossed seven innings of one run ball to earn the win, while Jakusik came back Sunday with six frames.

JUST A PINCH
Sophomore David Ferrara picked the perfect time to notch his first career RBI's. The sophomore belted a two-run pinch hit double to left center to give the Ducks a lead they didn't give up Sunday afternoon.

HIT KING
Yano became the program leader in hits, as he recorded three on Sunday, including No. 209 in the sixth inning.

SEEING DOUBLE
The Ducks pounded out five doubles on Sunday, including a pair each by Yano and junior Zeph Walters.

HEY MULE'
Junior Michael Mule' gave the Ducks some breathing room in the Amherst win, delivering an eighth inning two-run single to left field. Mule' had three hits and three RBI's.
