HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 24, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team picked up its second shutout of the season Saturday in a 9-0 Empire 8 win over Utica. 

The win moved Stevens to 5-1, while Utica fell to 3-5.

Stevens opened a commanding lead thanks to a sweep at doubles, the fourth of the season and third in-a-row. Senior Alexis Connor and freshman Isabella Calandra took the 8-0 victory at first, while junior Katrina Guido and Sydney Zoretic won 8-2 at second.

The win keeps Guido/Zoretic undefeated this season at 5-0, while Connor/Calandra moved its record to 4-2. 

Sophomore Jill Hadwen and sophomore Julia Earl rounded out the sweep with an 8-1 win at first. 

Singles brought much of the same for Stevens as each match lasted just two sets. Piskarev won 6-1, 6-0 at first in her season debut at the top spot, while Zoretic took home the 6-2, 6-1 win at second. Calandra won 6-1, 6-0 at third, and senior Jillian Morneau won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth. 

Earl captured a 6-3, 7-5 victory at fifth, while freshman Joilin Gomez won 6-2, 6-1 at sixth. 

Stevens will continue its four-match homestand Wednesday against Muhlenberg at 4 p.m.
