  • Short Story: Sophomore Troy Stanich won the 133-pound championship and junior Joey Borai and senior Zach Wilhelm each finished second in their respective weight classes, as No. 21 Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling placed third at the 40th annual Matman Invitational, hosted by Cornell College. The Ducks finished ahead of four teams ranked in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 25 Poll, including No. 2 Wartburg College and No. 5 Loras College.
  • The results: Stevens concluded the event with 98 team points to place third out of 17 competing programs. No. 1 Augsburg University earned victories in two different weight classes in winning the event with 133 points. Wisconsin-Platteville (106.5 points) finished atop two weight classes to place second. Cornell College (85.5 points) and Concordia College (84.5 points) completed the top five.
  • The victor: Stanich continued his unblemished sophomore campaign with four victories to win the 133-pound championship. After receiving a first-round bye, the Roxbury, New Jersey native pinned Luther College's Sam Camacho to begin his day and won a second consecutive fall over Wisconsin-LaCrosse's Josh Stenger in the quarterfinals. Stanich, the top wrestler in the country at 133 pounds, earned a major decision victory over Coe College's Fletcher Green to reach the championship bout and concluded his day with a decision victory over Augsburg's fifth-ranked Sam Bennyhoff to earn the title.

Other Top Finishers
  • The day saw six Ducks reach the quarterfinals, with four moving ahead to the semifinals. Of the semifinalists, the Ducks placed three in championship bouts. In total, Stevens had six placewinners on the day.
  • At 125 pounds, junior Joey Borai finished second after dropping a close 3-2 decision to Grand View University's Justin Portillo. Borai won his first two matches by fall and picked up a decision victory over Luther's Connor Murphy to reach the finals.
  • At 141 pounds, sophomore Michael Derin picked up consecutive falls in the consolation bracket to finish sixth, while freshman Brett Kaliner (No. 2) continued his strong debut campaign with a pair of victories to finish fourth.
  • Sophomore Dylan Van Sickell won a fall over Concordia's Alexander Skaare to place seventh at 149 pounds.
  • Senior Zach Wilhelm (No. 3) earned consecutive major decision victories to reach the championship bout at 157 pounds, before falling to Augsburg's fourth-ranked Ryan Epps in a hard-fought match.

  • No. 21 Stevens heads to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for a Centennial Conference tri-meet with McDaniel College and Gettysburg College. The hosting Bullets were selected third in the Centennial's Preseason Coaches Poll, while the McDaniel was chosen sixth.
