DALLAS, Texas (December 5, 2018)  – The National Collegiate Wrestling Association published its latest Division III rankings late Tuesday and junior
Troy Stanich of the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team moved into the No. 1 spot at 141 pounds following his championship performance at the New Standard Invitational.
Stanich totaled three pins, a technical fall and a major en route to his first individual title of the season. The Roxbury, New Jersey native's run to the 141-pound crown, and the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler Award, was punctuated by a dominant 8-0 victory in the championship bout over then-number one Ben Brisman of Ithaca College.Â
As a team, the Ducks moved up five spots in the national rankings and currently check in at No. 19. The top five spots in the poll remain largely unchanged with Augsburg University and Wartburg College continuing to hold the top spots. Johnson and Wales University and Ithaca switched places, with the Wildcats moving up to No. 3 and the Bombers falling to fourth. Wabash College remained fifth.
Additionally, sophomore
Brett Kaliner remained ranked at 149 pounds, coming in at No. 3 after a third-place finish at the New Standard.Â
The Ducks still have a pair of duals with nationally-ranked opponents remaining on the schedule. Stevens will take on No. 8 Baldwin Wallace University at this weekend's Waynesburg Duals and will match up with No. 7 Loras College on January 10 in Iowa.Â
