To become an NWCA Scholar All-American, there are a series of athletic and academic criteria for qualification. First the wrestler must place in top 8 in the regional tournament OR wrestle at least 15 matches during the season with a winning percentage greater than 66 %, AND, from an academic side, have an average GPA of 3.2 over the last 2 semesters/quarters or last 3 trimesters OR have a cumulative GPA of 3.2.
"Stevens wrestling continues to prove it is one of best destinations to chase down your athletic and academic goals," head coach
Anthony Bonaventura said. "The team put together another solid season, on and off the wrestling mat. Amazing effort to finish in the top-20 athletically and top-10 academically, one of only three teams do accomplish that feat. Proud of all the individuals who solidified Scholar All-American honors, it is something we talk about it at the beginning of the season. An accomplishment that truly exemplifies a dedicated student-athlete."
"The NWCA is proud to honor these outstanding individuals who demonstrate excellence on the mat and in the classroom as well," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer.
462 student-athletes in all representing 102 institutions were recognized by the NWCA in the organization's Division III announcement. Stevens' 12 honorees were tops among the five MAC schools whose wrestlers earned Scholar All-America status, while their 3.713 team GPA ranked 10
th nationally and was the only MAC school to finish at a 3.5 or higher.
