HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 25, 2018)  – Closing in on the program's first-ever Empire 8 Conference regular season title, the Stevens Institute of Technology Baseball team welcomes Utica College to Dobbelaar Field on April 28 for the final home series of the 2018 season.

Entering the weekend with a 20-14 mark on the year, Stevens is in a first-place tie with St. John Fisher College atop the E8 at 11-3. A sweep of the three-game series with the Pioneers, combined with a Fisher loss to Houghton would give the Ducks the Empire 8's regular season title and the right to host the league's postseason tournament in Hoboken. If the teams finished the weekend tie, Stevens' game with the Cardinals on May 4, would be for the regular season title. The game was originally scheduled for April 14 in Pittsford, but was postponed because of inclement weather. Stevens owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with St. John Fisher after sweeping the Cardinals on April 13.

Game times on Saturday are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and first pitch for the series finale on April 29 in slated for 1:00 p.m.

Immediately following the conclusion of Sunday's matinee, the Hoboken Museum will commemorate the first officially recorded, organized "base ball" game played under Alexander Joy Cartwright, Jr.'s rules. This year marks the sixth consecutive season that the Hoboken Nine will host a game played under these sames rules at Dobbelaar Field. The "match" will be a two-inning exhibition and will feature a voice-over narration, detailing the affair. Last season in 2017, Stevens baseball toured the Hoboken Museum and gained a deeper understanding of the connection between the game of baseball and the city that their institution calls home.

"It is a very special feeling for our student-athletes knowing that some of the earliest origins of baseball were played right here in Hoboken and it certainly adds to the level pride in being a student-athlete or a coach here at Stevens," said head coach Kristaps Aldins. "I believe it is important for our student-athletes to have an appreciation and understanding of the history of the game of baseball and how Hoboken played a part in our sport's development. We are very lucky to have the continued support of the Hoboken Historical Museum and also the Vintage 9 Baseball Team and are thrilled to involve them in our program in any way that we can."

Additionally, there will be free Cracker Jacks and beverages for those in attendance on Sunday afternoon (while supplies last).
