ANNVILLE, Pa. (November 11, 2019)  – Junior
Brett Kaliner of the eighth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team was named Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It's the first weekly award for the program since officially joining the MAC last July.
"Wrestler of the Week is a great honor, especially on opening weekend," said head coach
Joe Favia. "We certainly want to make a good impression with our move into the MAC. Brett executed his position at a high level this weekend. We are encouraged by the direction of the team as a whole after the weekend and look forward to the challenge ahead."
Kaliner began his 2019-20 season by scoring three pins and a major decision en route to his first tournament victory of the season at Saturday's Washington & Jefferson Invitational. The nation's top-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds pinned Jamestown Community College's Colten Studley (38 seconds) in the opening period, before pinning Alderson Broaddus' Syrus Colon (5:19) in the final period. Kaliner earned a 16-5 major over Millersville's Jackson Erb in his only non-fall victory of the event to reach the championship match. He closed out his championship run with an emphatic first-period pin of Washington & Jefferson's Michael Heinl (38 seconds) to capture first. The Ducks also won the team title.
Up Next: No. 8 Wrestling welcomes No. 14 Ithaca College to Canavan Arena for the first dual of the season. It will be the first dual between the programs since Nov. 14, 2015.
