CLEVELAND, Ohio (December 24, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology Department of Athletics was tied for 36th nationally in the final Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup Division III fall standings, it was announced today.
The Ducks compiled 128 points to tie with Babson College. The finish was the second-highest in the Middle Atlantic Conference, trailing Messiah College, who slotted 14th with 217 points. Stevens finished first among the seven New Jersey schools that received points based upon each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. In total, 189 schools were ranked after the completion of the eight fall championships (Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Women's Volleyball and Men's Water Polo).
Stevens received 64 points in both women's soccer and women's volleyball after the Ducks advanced to the third round of each sport's respective championship. All totaled, Stevens' fall team sports compiled a 62-28-3 record, which included a 24-3-1 record in MAC Freedom competition. The Ducks advanced to the postseason in women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer and field hockey, and captured three MAC Freedom regular-season titles and a pair of conference championships.
The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. In Division III, men's basketball and soccer, along with women's basketball and soccer must be counted, along with the next highest 14 (max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender.
After capturing national championships in women's cross country and women's volleyball, to go along with top-five finishes in men's cross country, field hockey and women's soccer, Johns Hopkins University topped the fall standings with 481 points. Propelled by a national championship in men's soccer, Tufts University ranked second with 354.50 points. University of Chicago (322.50), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (311) and Claremont-Mudd Scripps (305.50) rounded out the top-five.
