HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 18, 2021) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team released its 2021 competition schedule Thursday. The calendar features a total of 28 MAC Freedom games, beginning on March 7. Fourteen of the 28 games are set to take place in the friendly confines of Dobbelaar Field, where Stevens is 132-65 since 2010.
"A case could be made that the Spring 2021 season is the most anticipated season of all-time," said head coach
Kristaps Aldins. "What is not up for debate is our baseball student-athletes' remarkable perseverance and passion to get back on the diamond to compete."
Stevens' 28-game schedule will be played between March 7 and Apr. 25. Teams will play a home-and-home series that features a doubleheader in each ballpark, consisting of one seven-inning game and one nine-inning game. Postseason play begins on May 1st and is scheduled to end on May 16th with the crowning of the conference champion.
"Our program would also like to take a moment to thank Stevens and specifically, our Stevens Athletics administration and support staff, for guiding us to get to this point," Aldins added. "It is a proud feeling representing a university that holds college athletics at such a high esteem. They have truly done everything possible to give our student-athletes a season of competition within our new home in the MAC."
The Ducks will face seven opponents this season, beginning with King's College (Pa.) on March 7. It is the first meeting between the two programs and the return trip will occur a little less than a month later when Stevens travels to Center Valley, Pa. on April 3 to complete the four-game set.
Delaware Valley University is next on tap on Mar. 13 and 14. Stevens will play their first road contests of the season in Doylestown, Pennsylvania., on the 13th and will welcome DVU to campus one day later.
Arcadia University is next on the calendar with the series opener in Glenside, Penn. on Mar. 20 and the return games in Hoboken one day later. The Ducks have played two games against the Knights, with each team claiming a walk-off victory. In what is believed to be the first meeting between the programs on Apr. 15, 2015, a two-out single by Justin Chasmar scored Michael Nessel with the winning run. Nearly three years later,
Carlos Leon drove home
Alex Detweiler in the 10th inning to propel Stevens to the extra-inning win.
Another series against a first-time opponent is next on the schedule, with the Ducks opening their weekend tilt against Wilkes University at Dobbelaar Field on March 27.
Stevens heads to Dallas, Pennsylvania to open the weekend series against Misericordia. Prior to the cancellation of last year's series, the Ducks and Cougars have played every year since 2015 as non-conference opponents. Misericordia leads the all-time series 4-2.
The final two series on the schedule are against Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Campus (Apr. 17-18) and DeSales University (Apr. 24-25). The two games against the Devils will be the first meeting between the programs since 2012; FDU-Florham has won each of the last four contests between the teams. Meanwhile, Stevens and DeSales are tied in the all-time series, with each team winning two games, although they haven't played since 2015.
