HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 9, 2021) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swim team started the 2021 season strong on Sunday, taking home third place in the MAC Virtual Relay event with 180 total team points, including a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay.
The Ducks finished behind Messiah University (214 points) and York College (Pa.) (200 points) to earn bronze in a field of 11 teams.
The competition featured 17 different events, all relays, with eight men's events, eight women's events and one mixed relay. Stevens finished the day in the top-four in each of the eight women's-only relays, including four top-two finishes.
The highlight of the day for the Ducks was the 400-medley relay team of
Heather Maclachlan,
Audrey Fanning,
Alexis Colasurdo and
Lauren Smith who posted a time of 4:30.88 to take home the gold medal. Stevens also earned runner-up finishes in the 150-fly, the 150-breast and the 200-free relays.
Top Performers
- The Ducks started the day with a third-place finish in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:59.76 from Lauren Smith, Hannah Percely, Maclachlan, and Jamielyn Juan.
- Carolyn Wang, Fanning, Gillian Reinhardt and Nina Paradiso combined for a time of 2:01.67 to take fifth in the 200-medley relay to give Stevens two of the top-five fastest times.
- In the 150-fly, Reinhardt, Maclachlan and Juan touched in a time of 1:25.59 to take silver.
- The lone event the Ducks failed to finish inside the top-three was the 150-back, but Stevens still managed a fourth-place finish as Smith, Wang and Fanning produced a time of 1:32.34.
- Stevens took second in the 150-breast thanks to a time of 1:41.37 by Percely, Fanning and Colasurdo.
- One race later in the 500-free, Percely, Juan, Wang and Smith finished in a time of 5:12.57 to take third.
- In the mixed relay event with the men's team, Colasurdo and Percely teamed up with Daniel Hold and David Martinez to take first in a time of 1:50.91.
- The day rounded out with a runner-up finish in the 200-free after Juan, Maclachlan, Reinhardt and Colasurdo swam a time of 1:47.36.
- and Johnson swam a time of 1:28.25 for a second-place finish.
