AUSTIN, TEXAS (May 26, 2021)  – Graduate student Spencer Cook of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team was named a First Team Academic All-American, Wednesday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Already in elite company as a three-time Academic All-District selection, Cook earned Academic All-America recognition for the second time in his career. He becomes the 22nd student-athlete in department history to earn first-team honors and the first in men's basketball's 105-year history. The Washington Township, New Jersey native was a Third Team Academic All-America honoree one year ago.

"I am so happy for Spencer to earn this recognition as a student-athlete," said head coach Bobby Hurley. "He has been phenomenal in the classroom during his collegiate career and his ability to balance his academics and his commitment to basketball is second to none."

Over the course of his athletic career on Castle Point, Cook totaled 1,316 points over 76 games to finish seventh in program history. The 2019-20 NCAA Division III 3-point shooting champion, Cook made 169 of his 363 attempts from behind the arc and his 46.6% career 3-point shooting percentage is the top mark in program history. Cook also ranks among the career leaders in points per game, free throws made, free throw percentage and 3-point field goals for a program that dates back to the 1916-17 season.

A finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy in 2020, Cook has collected an impressive resume of athletic accomplishments during his time on Castle Point. The 2017 Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year and the 2020 MAC Freedom Player of the Year, Cook totaled three All-Region selections and a pair of All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association honors while representing Stevens on the hardwood. A two-time First Team All-Conference selection (in both the MAC Freedom and the Empire 8), Cook's most noteworthy achievement was his 2020 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-America selection, the first in program history.

In the classroom, Cook has earned an impressive 3.84 cumulative grade-point average as an undergraduate and a 3.94 cumulative GPA as a graduate student. He is set to complete his MBA with Finance and Data Analytics concentrations in May.

Cook was joined on the First Team by University of Rochester's Ryan Algier, Yeshiva University's Gabriel Leifer, Illinois Wesleyan University's Matthew Lentz, Edgewood College's Jake Negus and University of Lynchburg's T.C. Thaker. Leifer, a two-time D3Hoops All-American, was named the Academic All-America of the Year for men's basketball.

A total of 15 men's basketball student-athletes were recognized by CoSIDA and averaged a 3.84 cumulative GPA. Cook was the lone representative from the Middle Atlantic Conference.
