ANNVILLE, Pa. (September 6, 2021) – Senior
Aedan Boriotti of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team was named MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It's the second career weekly honor for the Sea Girt, New Jersey native and the first for men's soccer this season.
"Nice recognition for Aedan after the opening weekend and a testament to how well he trains and prepares," said head coach
Dale Jordan. "I'm sure we would be the first to say the defense in front of him worked incredibly hard to ensure the clean sheet and how committed the whole team was to defending."
Boriotti made seven saves as the Ducks played to a season-opening scoreless draw with SUNY Cortland on Sept. 4. The senior goalkeeper made two saves in the first half, three in the second, and a pair in overtime, to preserve his eighth career clean sheet. Counted among his seven stops was a splendid save on a one-timer by Cortland's Mike Hunsucker in the 109th minute. The scoreless tie was the first for the Ducks on opening day since the 2005 season.
Up Next: Men's Soccer welcomes Rutgers-Newark to campus on Sept. 8 for the Ducks' home opener. The contest was originally scheduled for one week earlier, but was postponed because of Tropical Storm Ida. The Ducks have won each of the last two meetings between the programs and hold a 6-4 advantage over the Scarlet Raiders since 2000. Links for live stats and video are available on StevensDucks.com.
