CLEVELAND, Ohio (January 21, 2022)  – The National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) announced Stevens Institute of Technology as a recipient of the NADIIIAA Community Service Awards in the Array of Projects Category for the 2020-21 academic year.

The awards program, established in 2001, recognizes projects in three categories: One-Time Activity, and Array of Projects, and Special Olympics Activity. It is the second time that Stevens Athletics has earned the award under the Array of Projects category.

"We are incredibly grateful to receive this honor from the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators and congratulations to all of the honorees," athletic director Russell Rogers said. "During a very difficult year with the many challenges that COVID presented, our student-athletes, coaches, and staff found unique and creative ways to continue serving the local community and other organizations that they felt passionate about. We are so proud and inspired by all of the individuals who participated and I would like to especially thank Jill Conroy, Annie DeLoid, Rebecca Mullen, and our community service committee for their vision and hard work to ensure that Stevens Athletics maintained its strong commitment to community involvement."

Spearheaded by the department's service committee, Stevens tallied close to 1,400 hours of combined projects and activities between its 369 student-athletes on campus. A total of 298 student-athletes spread across 11 teams participated in the Mile City Mentor program that partnered the Ducks with members of the Boys & Girls Club of Hoboken. Together, the mentors and the mentees conducted virtual events including a kickoff program, a holiday show and game nights. Additionally, over 350 student-athletes created cards and letters for frontline workers and patients at St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Other department initiatives included food drives, National Girls and Women in Sport Day and a dance marathon in conjunction with the institution's year-long, student-run StevensTHON program that benefits the Children's Specialized Hospital.

Stevens will be recognized at the NADIIIAA reception sponsored by eTeamSponsor taking place in conjunction with the NCAA Convention later today. In addition to presenting commemorative awards to the three winning institutions, NADIIIAA will make a contribution to the general scholarship fund at each winning institution. Along with Stevens, Shenandoah University was the recipient of the award in the Special Olympics Activity category and Haverford College was the recipient of the award in the One-Time Project Category.
