Men's Tennis Competes in the ITA Atlantic South Region Championship

The Ducks played in both singles and doubles at the three-day event

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Oct. 1, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team competed at the ITA Atlantic South Region Championship hosted by the University of Mary Washington on Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1.
 
First-year Max-William Kanz, first-year Timothy Lau, senior Philip Szkudlarski, sophomore Vivek Harinarayan, junior Andrew He, sophomore Olof Persson, sophomore Troy Zhang and junior Aashi Kulakarni all competed in the event for the Ducks.
 
Kanz and Lau both competed in the B1 singles bracket. Kanz fell in his first round match by a score of 8-4 to Eli Hirshberg from Washington and Lee University and Lau fell in his first round matchup to George Jiang of Johns Hopkins University by a score of 9-8 (7-3).
 
Szkudlarski advanced to the semifinals of the B2 singles bracket but fell by a score of 8-0. He won his round of 16 matchup 9-8 (7-3) and then won his quarterfinal matchup by a score of 8-2.
 
Three Ducks competed in the championship singles bracket. He and Kulakarni both lost their round of 64 matches. He fell by a score of 6-4, 6-0 and Kulakarni fell 6-3, 6-1. Harinarayan won his first two matches of the day and fell in the round of 16. He won his first match 6-1, 6-0 and his second match by a score of 6-1, 6-2. He finally succumbed to Rishi Shankar Charan from Mary Washington by a score of 6-2, 6-2 in the third round.
 
The Ducks also saw success at doubles. In the B1 bracket, Kanz and Szkudlarski won 8-6 in the opening round, 8-7 (9-7) in the quarter finals and then lost in the semis by a score of 8-3.
 
Three different pairing competed in the championship doubles bracket for Stevens. Lau and He won two matches, earning a first round victory by a score of 8-2 and a second round victory by a score of 8-4 before finally falling in the third round. Persson and Zhang received a first round bye, won their second match 8-6 and then were defeated in the third round by a score of 8-7 (7-5).         
 
The final doubles pairing was Kulakarni and Harinarayan. The duo won their round of 64 match by a score of 8-2 and then fell in the following round by a score of 8-6.
