HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 6, 2021)  – No. 3 Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing posted wins over Army and Yeshiva sandwiched around a setback to New Jersey Institute of Technology Sunday in a Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) Group "B" round robin event held at Canavan Arena. The event was the program's first home event since Feb. 9, 2020.

The Ducks began the day with a resounding 26-1 victory over Army before falling to NJIT via a narrow 16-11 margin. Stevens quickly rebounded with a 22-5 win over Yeshiva to close out the event and move to 24-6 on the year and to 7-1 in conference matches. Prior to the matches, the men's fencing program honored its senior class.

"It was a great day honoring all of our seniors," head coach James Carpenter said. "It is always amazing to reflect on the incredible careers they've had."

"It was also a great day of fencing, especially seeing our sabre squad beating a talented NJIT squad," Carpenter added.

Junior Dylan Woodward led the Ducks with eight victories, while senior Vaughn Rice had seven. Senior Gabe Toltus added five wins at epee, while foilists Rocco Mathews, and Ethan Grzeda each had four. First-years Colin Mahoney, Nicholas Smith and Myles Reda joined seniors Noah Ehrlich and Andy Faubert in posting three wins each. First-years John Morreale and Thomas Cheng joined seniors Ryan McLaughlin, Nick Beja and Tom Gana in scoring a pair of victories and senior Logan Rechler, junior Andrew Bauman and first-year Evan Peneiras each had one to account for the Duck victories on the afternoon.

The Ducks began the day by dropping just one bout to the Black Knights, posting 9-0 shutouts at both sabre and epee. Rice, Woodward and Mahoney each posted three wins in the sweep at saber, while Scott won all three of his bouts at epee. Army posted their only victory of the dual at foil and the Ducks held Army to one point or less in 11 of the 27 matches. Stevens has won the last 27 meetings between the programs.

The Highlanders presented the most challenging dual of the day, claiming a 7-2 win at foil and a 6-3 win at epee. Rice, Morreale and Woodward each went 2-1 at sabre to give the Ducks a solid 6-3 decision at the weapon. The Ducks and NJIT, who are receiving votes in the most-recent United States Fencing Coaches' Association Division I Poll, have alternated wins and losses over their last five meetings.

The final dual of the day featured the Ducks and the Maccabees. Stevens posted decisive wins at sabre and foil, dropping just a single point. Rice and Reda posted three wins each to lead the sabre squad to an 8-1 win, while Matthews, Grzeda and Beja had two wins apiece to lead the foil group to a 9-0 shutout. The most contentious matches of the day were at epee, where the Ducks edged Yeshiva 5-4, with Gana's 5-1 win over William Lerer securing the weapon for Stevens.
