Ducks open 31-match campaign on Sept. 2 in Baltimore

HOBOKEN, N.J. (August 9, 2022)  – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team revealed its 2022 schedule Tuesday. The campaign features 31 matches, including 14 in Canavan Arena, where the Ducks are 9-3 in matches at home under third-year head coach Brianna Jones. The slate also includes nine contests against teams that participated in the 2021 NCAA Division III Championship.

Stevens will also host three multi-team events in Canavan Arena: the Castle Point Challenge (Sept. 16-17), the Stevens Quad (Sept. 24) and the Stevens Invitational (Oct. 21-22). A total of 19 matches will be contested across the three events.

The season gets underway on Sept. 2, when the Ducks head to Baltimore, Maryland for the two-day Greg Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament, hosted by John Hopkins. The event is held in honor of the former Johns Hopkins head women's volleyball coach and former U.S. Olympic coach, who passed away in 2012. The Ducks open the event against the hosting Blue Jays, who finished 2021 ranked eighth by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Stevens will take on former Empire 8 Conference foe St. John Fisher and Marymount on the second day of competition. The Ducks have won 10 straight meetings with the Cardinals and topped the Saints last season in what was believed to be the first meeting between the programs.

The home, and MAC Freedom, opener takes place on Sept. 7, when the Ducks host Wilkes in a mid-week matchup. The Ducks hosted the Colonels in 2019 in the athletic department's inaugural MAC Freedom match.

The Ducks then head north to upstate New York for the North Country Classic. The Ducks will play four matches across two days in an event co-hosted by St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Stevens opens the event with matches against Lasell and the hosting Saints in Canton, N.Y. before closing with matches against Middlebury and Clarkson in Potsdam. Stevens hosted both Middlebury and Clarkson in last season's NCAA Hoboken Regional and will be playing Lasell for the first time. Stevens and St. Lawrence have not met since 2014.

Stevens welcomes DeSales to campus on Sept. 13 before beginning play in the Castle Point Challenge three days later. The Bulldogs snapped the Ducks' 64-match winning streak in regular season conference play before Stevens avenged the setback in the conference championship. In the Castle Point Challenge, Stevens will take on Montclair State, Randolph-Macon, Macalester and William Paterson. While both Montclair State and William Paterson represent frequent opponents, the matchups with Randolph-Macon and Macalester mark what is believed to be the first with each school.

Single matches at King's (Sept. 21) and Manhattanville (Sept. 23) lead the Ducks into a quad event on Sept. 24, where contests with Farmingdale State and Brooklyn await. The Ducks and the Valiants will be meeting for the first time since 2002, while the meeting with the Rams will be the first since 2006 (as Skyline Conference opponents). Stevens hosted Brooklyn in last year's NCAA Tournament, but the teams have not met as opponents since 2014.

Consecutive conference matches at FDU-Florham (Sept. 27) and in Canavan with Misericordia (Oct. 5) lead the Ducks into October. The Ducks travel to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania for the Juniata Invitational on Oct. 7-8, where they'll meet the hosting Eagles, Messiah and Mary Washington. Stevens will be facing Messiah for the first time and their matchup with Mary Washington will be the third all-time meeting and the second at Juniata's annual event.

Road contests with Drew (Oct. 13) and Lycoming (Oct. 19) takes Stevens into the Stevens Invitational, where a challenging slate is presented. The Ducks will take on Kean, Wesleyan (Conn.), NYU and Stockton. NYU and Wesleyan were each 2021 regional finalists and the Ducks have dropped three of the last four meetings with the Ospreys, although the Ducks swept Stockton in 2021.

Delaware Valley (Oct. 25) represents the home regular-season finale, while matches at Arcadia (Oct. 27) and Scranton (Oct. 28) close out the regular season. Scranton fell to Wesleyan in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Postseason play kicks off on Oct. 31 and the MAC Freedom will crown its champion on Nov. 5. The Ducks will be in search of their third straight MAC Freedom title.
