HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 18, 2023) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team defeated Stockton 9-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Courts to wrap up fall play.
In their first duel of the season, the Ducks (1-0) start off with a perfect record heading into the break before the spring season. Stockton falls to 0-1. The win for Stevens ends a three-match losing streak against the Ospreys.
Stevens came out of the gates by dominating at doubles. Sophomore Stephanie Untermeyer and first-year Alix Dry combined for a win on line one, shutting out their opponents. On line two, senior Polina Odintseva and first-year Lorena Piegas dropped just one game en route to victory. Sophomore Anya Sharma and first-year Julianna Gomez wrapped up the doubles victory for Stevens.
The Ducks rolled their success over to singles play, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Untermeyer found the most trouble competing on the first line, but she would win the tiebreaker 10-5. Dry had little problems on the second line and same for Gomez on the third line, as they each only lost two games. Piegas and junior Emma Eguia each had 6-2, 6-2 singles victories. First-year Julia Chiovitti capped things off with a win on line five.

Coach's Comments
-
"'We came out very strong in doubles and took control of the match early. It was our first home match of the season, and I thought we handled our nerves well in singles. We have a very young, talented team, and today's result was a reflection of that. Heading into the off-season, it's important that our team continues to grow together and build good habits on and off the court. I am excited about our potential and look forward to the Spring season!" - head coach Arik Zeevy.
