CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (January 29, 2022) – Graduate student Wolfe Crouse posted a team-leading seven wins to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team Sunday at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In his season debut, fifth-year Vaughn Rice joined sophomore Colin Mahoney in each posting six wins on the day for the Ducks, who went 1-5 on the day in concluding competition with a 23-9 record.

As a team, the Ducks fell to national powerhouses Boston College (17-10), NYU (17-10), MIT (18-9), Brandeis (23-4) and Brown (19-8), before wrapping up the day with a decisive 23-4 victory over Yeshiva. Within the weapon groups, the sabre group went an impressive 4-2 on the day, scoring victories over Boston College (6-3), NYU (5-4), Brown (5-4) and Yeshiva (8-1), with the only blemishes coming via identical 7-2 margins to MIT and Brandeis. The sabre squad finished the meet 28-26, while the epee group had 22 wins and the foilists finished with 13.

"Rough day of competition for our group," head coach Jim Carpenter said. "We were missing a couple of key starters and our competition was tough! Our team still fought hard throughout the meet and I am really proud of that effort!"

Crouse had an impressive 7-3 mark on the day, one of seven Ducks on the day to post a winning record. The Conroe, Texas native went 1-1 against both Boston College and NYU, while also going 2-1 against MIT. Crouse closed out his day with a perfect 2-0 mark against Brandeis and winning his lone tilt with Brown. The seven victories moved Crouse across the 150-win plateau (156).

Individually, senior Dylan Woodward (sabre) finished third on the team with five wins, while foilists junior Caleb Romero and first-year Andrew Yurovchak each had four. Foilists senior Andrew Bauman, sophomore Evan Peneiras and first-year Aden Vishnevsky joined epee fencers sophomore Jose Martinez-Ponce and senior James Morris and sabre squad members graduate student Matthew Jacobson, sophomore John Morreale and junior Christopher Stone in recording three wins. First-year David Ryder Bidwell (sabre) and first-year Nick Reznick (foil) each had two wins, while first-year Matthew Kemenosh (epee), sophomore Thomas Cheng (foil) and sophomore Rocco Mathews (foil) each added one win to account for the Ducks' victories on the day. The event marked the collegiate debut for Kemenosh, who also picked up his first career victory.
