Wolfe Crouse posted a team-leading seven wins to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team Sunday at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In his season debut, fifth-year
Vaughn Rice joined sophomore
Colin Mahoney in each posting six wins on the day for the Ducks, who went 1-5 on the day in concluding competition with a 23-9 record.
As a team, the Ducks fell to national powerhouses Boston College (17-10), NYU (17-10), MIT (18-9), Brandeis (23-4) and Brown (19-8), before wrapping up the day with a decisive 23-4 victory over Yeshiva. Within the weapon groups, the sabre group went an impressive 4-2 on the day, scoring victories over Boston College (6-3), NYU (5-4), Brown (5-4) and Yeshiva (8-1), with the only blemishes coming via identical 7-2 margins to MIT and Brandeis. The sabre squad finished the meet 28-26, while the epee group had 22 wins and the foilists finished with 13.
"Rough day of competition for our group," head coach
Jim Carpenter said. "We were missing a couple of key starters and our competition was tough! Our team still fought hard throughout the meet and I am really proud of that effort!"
Crouse had an impressive 7-3 mark on the day, one of seven Ducks on the day to post a winning record. The Conroe, Texas native went 1-1 against both Boston College and NYU, while also going 2-1 against MIT. Crouse closed out his day with a perfect 2-0 mark against Brandeis and winning his lone tilt with Brown. The seven victories moved Crouse across the 150-win plateau (156).

Rocco Mathews (foil) each added one win to account for the Ducks' victories on the day. The event marked the collegiate debut for Kemenosh, who also picked up his first career victory.
