HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 19, 2023) – Fifth-year
Vaughn Rice posted 12 wins at sabre to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team to a 4-1 record at the MACFA Group 'B' vs. Group 'C' event, hosted by Johns Hopkins University in Goldfarb Gymnasium.

Dylan Woodward and senior
Patrick Pan had 10 wins at sabre and epee, respectively, for the Ducks, who posted victories over the University of Maryland (22-5), Haverford (19-8), William & Mary (22-5) and the United States Naval Academy (22-5). The Ducks fell to hosting Johns Hopkins 20-7 to wrap up the day 30-11. The Ducks have won the last three meetings with the Terrapins, the last eight with the Fords, the last 12 with the Tribe and the last 11 with the Midshipmen. The setback to the Blue Jays was the second straight, although the Ducks had claimed the prior two matchups.
"Our team did great, especially considering we were battling, against both illness, and tough competition," head coach James Carpenter said.
Fifth-year
Andy Faubert picked up eight wins at epee to reach, and surpass, the 200-career wins plateau. Junior
Christopher Stone had a season-high nine wins at sabre, while first-year
Nick Reznick matched Faubert with eight wins on the day, although the Marlboro, New Jersey native did so foil. First-year
Andrew Yurovchak (epee) and sophomore
Rocco Mathews (foil) finished with seven wins each and sophomore
Thomas Cheng added five wins at foil. Four wins from first-year
Aden Vishnevsky (foil) and senior
Andrew Bauman (foil) and three wins each by sophomore
John Morreale and graduate student
Matthew Jacobson (sabre) were added to the team's event total. Two wins from junior
Caleb Romero and one from sophomore
Jose Martinez-Ponce accounted for the Ducks' victories on the day.
All three weapons produced a winning record, with the sabre group turning in the day's most impressive performance, finishing the day with a 37-8 record. Both the epee and foil groups posted identical 28-17 records as the three weapon groups combined for a 93-42 record for the event. Other than the match with Johns Hopkins where all three weapon groups came up short, the only other blemish on the day was a narrow 5-4 defeat against Haverford at foil.
Interestingly, the Ducks bookended the day with 22-5 victories, first over Maryland to begin the day and against Navy to close it out.
