PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (February 26, 2023) – Fifth-year
Andy Faubert notched seven wins at epee to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team Sunday at the Temple University Invitational.
First-year
Andrew Yurovchak and senior
Patrick Pan combined for 11 wins at epee for the Ducks, who dropped matches to No. 7 Penn State (25-2), Johns Hopkins (16-11), No. 2 Princeton (23-4), No. 6 Pennsylvania (16-11) and St. John's (18-9). The setbacks left Stevens with a 30-16 record on the year.
"The guys fenced great against some of our toughest competition of the season," head coach James Carpenter said. "Against three top-10 opponents, our squad fought hard and we had a lot of quality individual wins, even if they don't necessarily reflect in our team results for the day."
Fifth-year
Vaughn Rice had five wins at sabre, while teammate
Colin Mahoney added four. Sophomore
Rocco Mathews and first-year
Nick Reznick each had three wins at foil, while first-year
Aden Vishnevsky added one. Sophomore
John Morreale had two wins at sabre, while sophomore
Nicholas Smith had one at epee to round out the Ducks' victories on the day.
Within the individual weapons, the epee group collected the most wins on the day, totaling 19 wins and scoring victories over Johns Hopkins (5-4) and UPenn (6-3). The sabre group finished with 11 wins, including a victory over Johns Hopkins, while foilists wrapped up the competition with seven. As a team, the Ducks compiled 37 individual wins across the five bouts.
