Joel Martsinovsky all went 2-0 for the Stevens Institute of Technology Wrestling team during the first day of competition at the New Standard Corporation Invitational, hosted by York College of Pennsylvania.
Blaise Wagner and
Jack Bailey each won their lone matches Friday, giving the Ducks seven competitors still alive in championship brackets.
The Rundown & Top Performers
- Cortese advanced to the 149-pound quarterfinals with a fall in 3:50 and a 20-3 technical fall victory
- Roe made it two Ducks among the final eight at 149 with an 11-10 decision win and a fall in 0:59
- Venet picked up a fall in 1:34 and a 21-8 major decision win, earning a spot in the 157-pound quarters.
- Hinojosa's day started with a fall in 4:02 and concluded with a 7-3 decision win.
- Martsinovsky picked up career wins 97 and 98 with a 14-4 major decision and a 17-2 technical fall.
- Bailey picked up his eighth straight win with a pin in 0:48 and Wagner picked up a 19-4 technical fall win in their (respective) only contests of the day.
- Jason Smith and Branden Bulatao each picked up two wins and advanced to the Round of 8 in the consolation bracket at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively.
